Japanese Shiba Inu

The Japanese Shiba Inu is a big dog in a small package. Although usually standing between 14 to 16 inches tall (35cm to 40cm) they are the same proportions of the much larger cousin the Akita. This big dog attitude spills over into much of their behaviour as well. They come in three main colours, Red, Black and Tan and Brindle or Sesame. A Shiba will use his intelligence to get his own way as much as possible so needs a strong willed owner to keep him in check. Although not prone to much barking a Shiba will however let you know when someone is approaching the home, so will make an excellent guard dog. They love to play but are not to demanding regarding exercise.
